AJ Auxerre Earn Spot in UEFA Champions League Group Stage
(08.25.10)

The first win in the 2010-2011 campaign for AJ Auxerre was a big one! After losing 1-0 to Zenit St. Petersburg in their away leg of the Champions League playoffs, AJA returned to the Abbe-Deschamps Stadium and secured a 2-0 win over Zenit to win the aggregate series 2-1. With the 2-0 victory, AJ Auxerre have earned a position in the UEFA Champions League group stage!

Cedric Hengbart got the home side on the scoreboard early with a header goal nine minutes into the game. Ireneusz Jelen’s volley in the 52nd minute put AJA up in the aggregate and the home side maintained for the remainder to ensure a return to the Champions League after an eight-year absence. The Auxerre defense was aided late in the game as two men for Zenit were sent off.

Match day 1 of the 32-team group stage begins September 14 and 15. Groups will be drawn Thursday in Monaco.

Auxerre will return to Ligue 1 action this weekend when they take on AS Monaco. AJA will be looking for their first win in the domestic league after playing to draws in each of their first three matches.

Congratulations AJ Auxerre!

Rush Boys Membership,

As you buy your new uniform, please consider turning in your old uniform for a $20.00 credit!  It is as simple as this, when the Team Manager distributes your new uniform, bring in your old uniform.  The Team Manager will keep track of which players turned in there used uniform for the $20.00 credit.  The Rush management team will then ship these uniforms to our clubs in Africa.

Membership, each uniform is so important to these kids, each one makes a difference.  This is called our R.E.A.C.H. program, Rush Equipment Assisting CHildren.  You are helping kids feel part of a team…the Rush Soccer Club.

Help those boys and girls, consider donating your old uniform!

Thank you.

WPSL UPDATE : Rush Cripple St. George

Tucson, Az., July 10, 2010-  Despite the afternoon desert heat, the Arizona Rush managed to stay on top of their game and dominate 90 minutes to a 5-0 win over FC St. George.  The Rush showed up for one reason, which was clear from their movement with the ball.  They showed up to win.

Straight from kickoff the Rush tested St. George’s back line.  Starting strikers, Karina Camacho, Sam Drees, and Leilani Skinner, did their job by holding the ball and combining with each other forcing St. George keeper Dani Watts to come up with some impressive saves.  The first goal came from a combination play with the two attacking midfielders.  Brianna Oeser dribbled past the defense and a cut a ball back from the line to set up Mallory Miller for the one touch finish.

The Rush defense was never out of the picture.  They made overlapping runs and got up field to help the attack on numerous occasions.  Taylor McCarter found herself in the penalty box to draw the foul for a penalty kick which Miller found the back of the net on and Sylvia Gee’s corner kick found Camacho for the third goal.

Megan Medermott took advantage of a fast break and added the first goal of the second half, assisted by Miller. Miller finished off her day with a hat trick combining again with Oeser.  It was a full team effort and impressive finish for the Rush after a week of no games.

The Rush will be traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah for their last two matches.  With good out comes, the undefeated Rush stand a chance to make the play-offs.

IS THE AZ RUSH WPSL TEAM "REALLY" A PATH TO THE WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE?      READ ON.......

(ALSO, COMING SOON, AN AZ RUSH ALUMNUS PLAYING COLLEGIATE SOCCER TELLS US WHY     SHE THINKS HAVING PLAYED ON OUR WPSL TEAM WAS SO VALUABLE TO HER.)

ARIZONA RUSH WPSL HAS LEAGUE-TOPPING FOUR PLAYERS SELECTED IN THE WPS (WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL SOCCER) DRAFT. (Note: the following text from the WPS is edited to fit this site, and color emphasis added).

PHILADELPHIA, PA (01/15/10) - In today's Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft held at the Philadelphia Convention Center, over 20 current & former standouts from the member teams of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) were selected. But more than that, dreams of one day playing in the professional ranks alongside the best in the world are now within their fingertips - or soccer boots, in this case.

Aside from the virtual domination of the graduating seniors from the defending NCAA Champion North Carolina Tar Heels in the first few rounds (seven players drafted overall), there were still first-round opportunities to be taken. Which was certainly the case for the Arizona Rush with four selections overall, as 2009 All-WPSL selection & high-scoring forward Kiersten Dallstream was selected with the 9th pick of the First Round by the Los Angeles Sol. Former SoccerPlus CT Reds goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher (pictured above with WPS Commissioner Tonya Antonucci) was drafted by the Boston Breakers two picks later to finish off the First Round.

NOTE: For comprehensive WPS Draft coverage of this tremendous event, visit their official website at http://www.womensprosoccer.com. For our own multimedia coverage including pics & interviews, please visit our Twitter & Facebook pages. The full list of WPSL players drafted today is at the bottom of this release.

Naeher is already very familiar with Boston Head Coach Tony DiCicco, as he has already worked with her mentor at both SoccerPlus CT and with the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team. Her Reds and Nittany Lions teammate Katie Schoepfer - an All-WPSL selection in 2008 - had to wait a little longer for her call, as she was drafted by the defending WPS Champion Sky Blue F.C. with the 26th pick in the 3rd Round. Another former SPCT team-mate in Becky Edwards would be tabbed as the first pick of the 2nd Round by the F.C. Gold Pride, and has already been slotted by Head Coach Albertin Montoya to help fill the midfield role left by the departure of U.S. Women's National Team member Leslie Osborne.

Three more WPSL standouts would get drafted in the 2nd Round, and Arizona continued to have strong representation at the top of the draft. 2008 Big Sky Conference MVP & UNC star Jess McDonald would be picked 15th overall by the Chicago Red Stars while Dallstream's Washington State & AZ Rush team-mate Carly Dobratz would go to the Washington Freedom with the 18th pick. West Coast F.C.'s Kristina Larsen would be drafted 17th overall by Saint Louis Athletica, ending her distinguished career at UCLA.

According to many safety organizations, including the National Lightning Safety Institute, the 30/30 rule should be applied when dealing with lightning.   It simply says that if the time between the visual sighting of a lightning strike and the sound of thunder is less than 30 seconds, cover needs to be found immediately.   The second “30” refers to the amount of time (in minutes) that you must wait until after the last thunder is heard before you return outside.

Statistics for lightning injuries and deaths are shocking.   According to US Youth Soccer, over 400 children are struck by lightning each year, with nearly 80 deaths occurring and many more with permanent disabilities.   The National Lightning Safety Institute reports that lightning deaths rate #2 in weather related deaths each year behind floods, ahead of tornados and hurricanes.  Many many more sustain serious permanent neurological injuries.

Coaches, parents, players and all associated youth sports need to become informed about the dangers of lightning, what to do when it occurs, how to protect themselves, and what to do in an emergency when someone is struck by lightning.
